CMT Music Awards Winners Carrie Underwood took home the belt buckle trophy for the night's big award, Video of the Year, for "Good Girl" at last night's (Wednesday, June 6th) CMT Music Awards. The show, held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, was co-hosted by Toby Keith and actress Kristen Bell, and featured a slew of performances along with some surprises.
Lady Antebellum opened the show with Nashville's own pop group, Hot Chelle Rae. They performed a mashup of Lady A's "We Owned The Night" and Hot Chelle Rae's "Tonight, Tonight."
The show kicked off up with a pretend feud between Toby and Kristen, who argued over who was going to get the hosting gig. Several celebrities made cameo appearances in the video open, including the Today show's Kathie Lee & Hoda, Jon Bon Jovi and Matthew McConaghey. The opening also featured mock political attack ads for each host. President Obama and Mitt Romney appeared to each say they wanted both Kristen and Toby to host the show.
The evening's performers included Luke Bryan ("Drunk on You"), Zac Brown Band ("The Wind"), Pistol Annies ("Takin' Pills"), The Band Perry ("Postcard from Paris"), Little Big Town ("Pontoon"), Kenny Chesney ("Come Over"), Toby Keith ("Beers Ago"), Eric Church ("Drink In My Hand"), Carrie Underwood ("Good Girl"), Brad Paisley and Hank Williams, Jr. ("I'm Gonna Get Drunk And Play Hank Williams"), Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, Zac Brown, Darius Rucker, and Jamey Johnson ("Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die") and Rascal Flatts and Journey, who closed the show dueting on "Don't Stop Believin'."
Other notable moments included Sara Evans paying tribute to the troops on the anniversary of D-Day.
